From Crew Member to Jump Master: How We Train the Team Behind Every Jump

At Great Canadian Bungee, becoming a Jump Master isn't something that happens overnight. Every member of our operations team follows a structured training program designed to build experience, confidence, and expertise before taking on the responsibility of leading jumps from the tower.

Our training philosophy is simple: every great Jump Master should understand every role on the crew.

Learning from the Ground Up

Every new team member begins their journey as a Retrieval Operator. Stationed in the boat at the bottom of the quarry, Retrieval Operators are responsible for safely bringing guests back to shore after their jump. This role allows new employees to become familiar with our operation while learning how each jump unfolds from start to finish.

Once they've mastered this position, crew members move on to become Schedulers. Schedulers prepare guests before their activity, explain important safety procedures, answer questions, and ensure each group understands what to expect before heading to the tower. Developing strong communication skills at this stage helps create a positive and reassuring experience for every guest.

The next step is becoming a Jump Assistant. Working alongside experienced Jump Masters, Jump Assistants learn the finer details of equipment preparation, safety checks, guest management, and tower operations. This hands-on experience builds the technical skills required before taking on the lead role.

Finally, after successfully demonstrating proficiency at every previous position, a crew member can begin training as a Jump Master—the individual responsible for overseeing the jump itself and ensuring every safety protocol is followed from start to finish.

Training Beyond Experience

Hands-on experience is only one part of becoming a Jump Master.

Great Canadian Bungee has partnered with professional bungee consulting companies to develop a comprehensive training program that combines practical experience with formal education. Every crew member completes structured training modules, written assessments, and practical evaluations throughout their progression.

These materials cover everything from equipment knowledge and operating procedures to emergency response, communication, and safety protocols. Crew members must successfully complete each stage before advancing to the next position.

This combination of classroom learning and real-world experience ensures that every Jump Master has a complete understanding of the operation—not just their own role, but the responsibilities of every member of the crew.

A Culture of Continuous Learning

Training doesn't stop once someone becomes a Jump Master.

Throughout the season, our team continues to review procedures, refresh safety knowledge, and build upon their experience. We believe that maintaining high standards means continually learning and improving, no matter how long someone has been with us.

This commitment to ongoing development helps us provide a safe, consistent, and memorable experience for every guest who visits Great Canadian Bungee.
